Iran pitted against Oman in 2018 World Cup qualifiers

Team Iran avoided a difficult group in its Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying draw in the ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Tuesday.
Iran has been drawn with Oman, India, Turkmenistan and Guam in Group D.Forty teams from the AFC were split into eight groups of five, with the eight group winners and four best second-placed teams progressing to the final round of the World Cup qualifiers, as well as the 2019 Asian Cup finals in United Arab Emirates.
The remaining 28 teams will see their 2018 World Cup hopes extinguished, but will have another chance to qualify for the 2019 Asian Cup as the next 16 highest-placed teams will advance to the third round of the Asian Cup qualifiers.
The second round of the World Cup qualifiers will take place from June 11 to March 29 next year, with each nation playing home and away matches in a round-robin format.

Group A: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Timor Leste, Malaysia.
Group B: Australia, Jordan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Bangladesh
Group C: China, Qatar, Maldives, Bhutan, Hong Kong
Group D: Iran, Oman, India, Turkmenistan, Guam
Group E: Japan, Syria, Afghanistan, Singapore, Cambodia
Group F: Iraq, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei
Group G: Korea Republic, Kuwait, Lebanon, Myanmar, Laos
Group H: Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Philippines, DPR Korea, Yemen
